12/1 Games Day

On December 1st we had a raucous day of gaming with a lot of new faces at the club! There was Warhammer 40k, Ronin samurai skirmish battles, Black Powder Napoleonics, and American War of Independance!.

Here are some of my pictures:

By the way, if you are from the club and you read this could you leave a comment below :-)

10/6 Gamesday

Today we tried Osprey's new Samurai game "Ronin" for the first time.

A group of ravaging bandits tried to loot a sleepy town, only to be annihilated by 4 master swordsmen.

Also today we had an impressive game if Blackpowder. Robert's fields looked amazing and opened up all new terrain possibilities for our table. Thanks!

Finally there was a 1000 point Warhammer fantasy game. The Dwarves had a bit of an equipment malfunction at the beginning of the game. I didn't see the end but I wonder if the elves could use that to their advantage!

Thanks to everyone who came out today :-)

Events Update and Atsugi Gamesday

We all had a fantastic time at the Welcome to Wargaming event held at the Atsugi Naval Airbase on September 21st!

The Event was set up very professionally and had a great convention feel that us Japan gamers don't get to see very often.

We had plenty of space to set up a large Blackpowder game. The other players that day were mainly of the Warhammer 40,000 variety but we got many wide eyes coming over to our table to check out the historical action.

Cheers to the gentlemen at Wargamers in Japan who so ambitiously planned the event and we are all looking forward to more fun get togethers in the future.

As for our own humble gamer conglomeration we have a games day on October 6th (Sunday). For  now the plan is to hold our first even RONIN game in the morning. I will be bringing along my full complement of Oshiro Model Terrain buildings as well as a painted buntai of bandits. I am more than willing to just be the rules guy and let someone else use my miniatures so please if you are interested stop on by!!!

In the afternoon we hope to have another thrilling rumble in the Napoleonic era. Blackpowder!

(PLEASE CHECK OUR UPCOMING EVENT INFORMATION FOR OCTOBER - DECEMBER. If you will notice we have November and December games days only a week apart. Perhaps we could come up with an interesting way to make the best of that.)

NEWS

Dear All,

Again it has been a while, it seems to be always a while, I guess I should blog more, but life always gets in the way.

So there are a few things to report and I thought I would share them with you all.

Pete seems to be a little better, I spoke with his wife and she told me he can now breath by himself, although the situation is still very serious, please let's put our thoughts together and wish Pete a speedy recovery.

As on the hobby front the great news is that we are going to go to a large wargaming event hosted by the Atsugi US Navy Base. It is going to be a big event that we would like to grow into something nice and special, with the intent of gathering war-gamers from all over the islands.

Here is the leaflet in all its glory and it mentions our Black Powder game!

As the West Tokyo War-gamers we will put up a demo/participation game of Black Powder using our huge collections of figures. We still have to plan on a scenario and what sort of terrain we want to carry, but we have a rough idea of what we are going to do.

Hopefully we will be able to recruit more people and have larger and larger games!

Last Saturday we played an awesome game of Black Powder where my Bavarian regiment proved its worth and frontally attacked, routed and destroyed a battery of British artillery! Good Job Mein Herren.

The Grenadiers!
Fortunately I am not so busy at work right now, that means I can paint more, in fact I just finished dipping my first battalion of line infantry of the Kingdom of Italy. I am slowly retouching the colours now and soon I should start with the second!

In the mean time as 4 battalions are not enough to paint, I allowed myself to order more french infantry from Victrix and from warlord games, they will be turned into Kingdom of Italy troops and one of the battalions will become "La legion Piedmontese".

I always seem to be finding something to do with Piedmont (where I come from), they have a peculiar brown uniform! really cool.

Definitely a non Piedmontese thing, but never the less a great character from the Masters of the Universe
Anyway too much bla bla bla, keep free for the 21st of September and join us at the Atsugi event.

In case you decide to participate, please let me know in advance as you will be required to fill in a form to get permission to enter the base.

talk soon

Pete Allen

Giovanni and I have some bad news we have to pass on to all of you.

Last Sunday, on his way back home from the game, Pete Allen suffered a major heart attack, and was taken to hospital.

Giovanni has been keeping in touch with Pete's wife, Kumiko, and we have to report that Pete's situation is extremely serious.   At the time of writing, Pete has been in a coma since he was hospitalized, and the reality is that his prognosis remains very uncertain at this point in time.

Kumiko has asked that we inform you of Pete's current situation via this blog.

Pete has been an active member of the club for some years now, and he has earned our friendship and respect for his good humour, his talent, and his total passion for the hobby.

This is hard news for all of us.  We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy and support for Kumiko and Robin at this very difficult time, as we all hope for Pete's full recovery.

Up coming events for 3 months

Hi all,

Again I think a long while passed since tha last post, perhaps almost a month!

Again as the tradition demands I am blogging from the train while standing with many other human beings, in a rainy day on the Nambu Line.

So thanks to Brian we managed to book 3 months worth of gaming room Huzzah!

First event will be on June the 30th and so far we plan to play the following:

Bolt action - Operation Husky - with Germans, Italians, Americans and British

Black powder - the traditional napoleonic game, that has been growing in size since our humble beginnings a couple of years ago.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles - with Tomb kings, Dwarves, perhaps Skaven and other amazing creatures.

We have also booked for July 14th and August  3rd. Obviously we haven't thought yet what to play but as time goes by we will have more ideas coming up.

Please put the dates in your diaries and come along for some healthy stress release!!!

Bla bla bla

Well well well it has been a long while again!

I think the job change I spoke about a few month ago wasn't exactly what I expected! So it influenced my routine, carefully built after many years! It means I work more an travel more so I have much less time to paint and organize games than I had before! I think at the club for a reason or another we all got busy. The result is that the blog suffered a bit.

But thanks to the help of technology now I can write while,on the train and talking to Brian tonight I realized that I can write the blog while comfortably siting on the green velvet of the Yokohama line.

So the club activities have been steadily quiet, we had 2 new members recruited through my daughter's Italian school, where one of the other dads came out being a miniatures and RPG aficionado, he brought with him a friend to play a game of black powder. He also won!!! You can see some of the photos for the previous post.

On the side I have also managed to gather other 7 D&D Italian players! We had a worm up session that went rather well, so it looks like I will be playing in mu native language! Nice plus isn't it? We just need some heavy metal t-shirts,  grew a bit of a mullet and there we are back in middle school.

A few month ago I also bought 2 sets of rules. One is rather popular, Musket & Tomahawk that I intended to use with my late 17th century figs in 15mm. Really nice set of rules. The second, that to me is the most exciting, is called  In the Heart of Africa. This is an awesome set of rules. They are meant for a long term project of mine, to collect foundry darkest Africa range of miniatures.

If any of you Gentlemen reader has some of those miniatures and want to get rid of them, with me they will find a loving family.

The next club game is this coming Sunday, the only trouble for me is that my daughter kindergarten has decided to organize a visit to the Tama zoo on the same day!! With all the parents, needless to say that the choice was obvious after receiving one of hose "stares" from the wife! Not that I ever had any doubt!

Next month I will enjoy the game even more.

Next appointments are:  June 30th and July 14th, by then we will be all steaming hot for summer!

Good gaming, good painting to,all of you
